Will Ferrell and John Lithgow are a true match for a "father/son" combo. At one point, young Megan and Adrianna sneak eggnog that’s been thoroughly spiked with liquor. When we see them in the next scene, they’re clearly very drunk (and their parents are clearly frustrated at the choice they’ve made). Don is so committed to being positive that it leads at times to keep significant secrets, refusing to tell the truth about some hard things in his life. When those secrets are exposed, it creates a rift that father and son are forced to work through as they both learn how to be more honest with one another.
Meanwhile, Brad’s own ultra-affectionate and emotional dad, Don, shows up to celebrate Christmas with Brad’s family, but without Brad’s mother.

Daddy's Home 2 finds family man Brad and Dusty, the father of Brad's two stepchildren, having to cope with Dusty's macho father who wants to create friction between the two best buddies during the Christmas holiday. A sequel to the 2015 hit comedy starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, as two rival fathers competing for the same children's love. In this follow-up they're now friends, and they have to deal with their own fathers visiting for the holidays, who are also complete opposites as well of course. Mel Gibson and John Lithgow join the cast, as the elder dads, while Linda Cardellini and John Cena also reprise their roles from the original movie.
On November 5, 2014, it was confirmed that Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg would play the lead roles in the film. On November 12, Linda Cardellini joined the cast of the film, to play Ferrell's character's wife. On November 18, Hannibal Buress joined the film to play a sarcastic handyman.

Worst of all is a scene near the movie's end, in which a boy who's been teased for liking a girl is told by all the adults to go kiss that girl -- and, instead, he plants a surprise kiss on another girl. She's an object to be triumphed over, a mark of a boy's impending manhood, not a human being with feelings. Later, young girls line up to kiss the other boy underneath the mistletoe, which the movie seems to find charming and funny, as if that boy is a womanizer-to-be in the Grandpa Kurt mold. In a movie that wants to give us messages about togetherness and families, these and other scenes strike a regressive note that make all the gags and absurdity a lot less fun.
Which tends to ne bad language, “bodily” jokes (farting, groins, sex… etc.). He can be funny like Jim Carey, but they both had their periods where the did some pretty raunchy movies. Best to avoid this movie or just watch it on TV when its all edited down to a safer level. “Daddy’s Home” appears to be a family-friendly film from its trailers and commercials.

Kurt doesn’t think much of Don and Brad’s affirmation-drenched father-son relationship. And he thinks even less of the softening influence that Brad’s apparently had on Dusty. It helps that Daddy's Home 2 has excellent comedic timing as well. The slapstick antics will remind some viewers of an old-fashioned Warner Brothers cartoon, with punchlines that strike at lightning speed.
Overall, it’s not the best comedy in the world, but definitely not the worst either. A boy talks about being bullied at school, and both his dad and step-dad give him some lessons in self-defense. A young boy later punches a girl, and a man punches another man. He’s now a doting, devoted stepdad to Megan and Dylan, the two kids she had with Dusty.
A series of clumsy slapstick gags, exaggerated conflicts, and formulaic holiday comedy nonsense. But Brad’s pretty sure the guy knows how to kill people. He can do pull-ups with one arm … all day … without ever breaking a sweat. After years of Brad’s steady, consistent efforts to win their hearts, Dylan and Megan are finally starting to come around.
The screenplay is by Sean Anders and John Morris, with Anders also directing. The humour was great, the story was fun, and it had a lovely Christmassy vibe. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, rehashing some of the same jokes/themes from the first film, but that doesn't mean they aren't still funny and there are enough new ideas to keep things fresh. The jokes are uninspired, the characters' actions don't make sense and the story becomes more contrived as the movie goes on-the ending is particularly eye-roll inducing.
Picking up where the last movie left off, Brad Whitaker and Dusty Mayron have successfully transitioned into their roles as co-dads to a blended family. Despite a few minor hiccups, both men feel they have managed to create a loving and stable environment for their children. However, when their daughter confesses her unhappiness at the separate Christmas visits during a school pageant, Dusty and Brad decide it's time to merge their individual parties into one gigantic celebration.
Together, the actors create a solid foundation in a film which is largely composed of fluff. Movieguide® wants to give you the resources to empower the good and the beautiful. Also, Brad and Sara, Dusty’s ex-wife, have a new child of their own, Griffy. In April 2016, a sequel was announced with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg reprising their characters. Anders and John Morris wrote the script and Anders directed.
Almost the same as the first with grandfathers and less laughs and less fun. Quite a few of the funniest ones are spoiled by the trailer, but there are still a few standout routines that made me guffaw. A hi-tech shower is predictable but funny; and Brad's use of a snowblower to apocalyptic ends is the funniest scene in the movie. Will Ferrell ("Get Hard", "Anchorman") reprises his role as the somewhat incompetent Brad, 'sharing' his family of kids and stepkids with the much more streetwise Dusty (Mark Wahlberg, "Patriot's Day"). After a poignant school recital, the pair realise the damage that a distributed Christmas is doing to their offspring and they determine to spend Christmas all together this year. In the process they vow to try to put aside their attempts at one-upmanship - "the harbour is closed" - in the interests of giving everyone the best Christmas ever.
Sadly, this sequel fails to generate any laughs or gags. Most of the fun parts were already shown in the trailers. Mel Gibson's character is like a dead beat with jokes about hookers, teaching boys to be tough man and to hunt to provide for their ladies.
Dusty admits that he cannot handle the hard parts about being a father, and admires Brad for putting up with everything. Brad says that all of the terrible parts about being a dad are worth it, because in the end he is doing it for his kids.
